Body Transformation Contest
Here's the contest:
There is a Men’s and Women’s division. Each divisional winner will win a 40″ 1080p television. Runner up winners will win a one year VIP membership 3rd place winners will win a 6 month VIP membership (memberships will be upgraded if they are not already VIP). Each contestant will receive the following: 2 personal nutritional assessments, 2 ultrasound bodyfat assessments (one at beginning of 90 day program and one at the end)
Rules of the contest:
This is a body transformation contest where the winner will be chosen from the contestant that sheds the most body fat WITHOUT losing muscle mass. Points will be awarded to contestants that lose body fat but points will be deducted for losing muscle mass. No additional points will be awarded for muscle gain. The reason we have chosen this criteria for the winner is simple, yet very important; we don’t want contestants slowing down their metabolism by losing muscle mass. Studies show that for every pound of lean tissue (muscle mass) that you gain or lose your metabolism increases or decreases by 35- 50 calories per day at rest. For folks that follow traditional “weight loss” diets this is a recipe for disaster as muscle loss can approach 25% or more of the weight lost in these types of diets. This makes people with slow metabolisms even slower (and the last thing anyone who is unhappy with excess body fat wants is to slow down an already slow metabolism).
As an example: if a man or woman loses 20 pounds of weight and 25% is muscle (or 5 pounds of lean tissue) then his/her metabolism has slowed down dramatically. Their body is no longer burning 175-250 calories per day atrest. That is the equivalent of running 1.75 – 2.5 miles a day just to maintain the slow metabolism they had prior to their weight loss. Many fitness and nutritional experts (including doctors) now believe losing muscle mass is a major component in rebound weight gain. It becomes just too hard to keep the weight off once they’ve lost all that muscle mass!
So here at GWO we want our members, and our body transformation contestants, to lose the right type of weight (body fat only), lose it the right way, and put them in a position to keep it off (by maintaining their lean body tissue). Studies show conclusively that the key to “permanent” body fat loss is proper nutrition and exercise. To that end we want to give you the tools you need to ensure that you only lose body fat or at least keep muscle loss to a minimum. That’s why when you sign up for the Go Workout Body Transformation Challenge we will give you two nutritional assessments with our trainers to make sure you know how to lose body fat and keep your metabolism humming along by keeping your lean tissue (muscle mass). Cost:
$49.99 per contestant for the Go Workout local contest. The fee is waived for members that enter the Visalus national contest (ask at the club when you come in).
